Reviving the wreckage of our campervan crash, silver linings is an immersive installation inspired by its story.
Half campervan crash, half celebration. Walk around a space that transforms you from past to present, and finds the good out of a bad situation. Come dance, hang out and celebrate the silver linings in life.
What could have been lost? What do we have? What do you want?
Aim:
Aside from being a funky and cool space to come across, it will also encourage introspection, gratitude, and a shift in perspective in festival-goers. Experiencing this installation is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of looking on the bright side... it’s a space to relax, be present and celebrate.
How:
The juxtaposition of the smashed car crash side of the campervan and the groovily decorated area on the other side creates a celebratory feeling that there’s hope and optimism in every bad situation. The installation can have music playing and an area to sit around so people can hang out or dance around the space.
-There will be resources of information that will explain the installation and help festival goers understand its purpose and the philosophies that surround it. (Similar to how a plaque under an art piece in a gallery explains its meaning - however this info will be displayed more subtly / creatively).
- It can also host various activities aligned with its theme to enhance the experience, for example:
Mantra Making - create your own pocket size mantra pack (to unlearn negative thought patterns, practice gratitude, remind ourselves the change we want to make, manifest)
Henna Tattos of Silver Linings clouds and option to make your own unique symbol
Mindful crochet / up cycling craft lessons (being present, making something out of something redundant)
(optional) Music:
Good vibes only: funk and soul, disco house, from retro 80s old school to modern electronic dance music. We can read the room and cater music for chill or celebratory vibes.
(optional DJs)
For the Latitude venue in 2023, we hosted a DJ on a little stage attached to the campervan and had PA systems on either side which filled the space well. This could be done again, either with the festivals Djs or ours.
Changes from 2023 Design...
More focused on being an installation than an event space / DJ music stage, but can still host DJs / play music. More activations / more obvious what it’s meant to make you feel and experience
Not an enclosed area - smaller and more able to be placed anywhere.
There are just two decorated fences on either side of the campervan making it more of a semi circle than enclosed area. On the crashed side the fences are heavily decorated with junk and on the unscathed side they're decorated with groovy colourful sparkly materials and clouds. The gazebo overhead is covered in cloud-like material on the crashed side and groovy colourful material on the unscathed side.
Comfy lounging seats around the unscathed side area (like hay bales / bean bags) for hanging out
NB. I will need 3x Harris Fence panels (+weights, joining clamps) and power cables to be supplied by the venue.
